There was some controversy over Beyoncé’s new video “Partition”, where the racy lyrics paired with the overtly sexual video seemed to be too much for some people’s taste. Lyrics like “ He Monica Lewinskied all on my blouse”, struck some as inappropriate and the fact that Beyoncé was clearly implying she was having sex in the back seat of a car just took some people over the edge. Questioning her ethics, claiming it was porn. With 39 + million views on Youtube, its funny how many people chose to watch the video, and then heavily judge.
First of all I commend Beyoncé because, she has her husband in the video with her. She may or may not be loosely vocalizing some sexual escapades that her and Jay-Z might have indulged in, and I think that’s artistic, open and tasteful.
A song about sex with her husband, wanting to the “the girl he likes”. I see nothing wrong with that. Maybe this is a fantasy of hers or maybe its real life, but one thing I know is Beyonce is a pretty private person and for her to be so overtly open about sex (with her man I assume) is a refreshing twist from what I expect from a typical Beyonce track.
I mean seriously, how many “girls run the world and bootylicious tracks” can we take…its a welcome change of pace- at least in my opinion.
I wont get on my soapbox and express my dislike for people judging someone based solely on their artistic expression, but what I will say is that I love Beyoncé’s “openness” through her music.
Although I believe we will never see a reality TV show called “The Carters, I do enjoy Beyonce’s willingness to express her inner thoughts through her music and give her fans a taste of her world.
Until next time lovelies! Let me know what you think!
