Juan Pablo and the Finale of The Bachelor

This was my first time watching The Bachelor, and after the controversy over the show’s refusal to cast a black or minority Bachelor or Bachelorette up until this point, it was refreshing to see that they chose Juan Pablo as their bachelor (but fingers crossed for a Black, Asian, Indian or simply a more diverse Bachelor/Bachelorette cast, at some point in the near future.) Although I do like Andy for the next Bachelorette, I hope the next cast vying for her love will be diverse…but I digress on that point. Anyway after an awkward ending to the Bachelor “love story”, I would like to say that I am happy with the ending of the Bachelor and here’s why.

He was Honest. Yes this is a TV show, and yes things can get a bit sticky when it comes to what they expect the result of this show to be, however Juan Pablo was 100% honest in how he acted and treated the women. Some women complained that he didn’t ask them about their personal lives. Andy complained that Juan Pablo didn’t know her, and Clare got upset when he told her that he liked to kiss her. Whatever he whispered in her ear that was “inappropriate”, does not erase the fact that he was honest! She admitted that she had rose colored glasses on, and love will do that to you! Also, its a reality show, he can’t straight up tell her that she isn’t the one for him, but I can say that if he didn’t see a future with her, he shouldn’t have told her he saw a future. It’s really a lose-lose when all is said and done, but reality is that these women fell head over heels. Some liked him more than he did, and he was honest. If he wasn’t interested, he didn’t ask about their lives. If all he had was a physical attraction, he kept it physical. To me that is honest, harsh but honest.

He treated the situation like a real relationship, and forgot about the “timeline” for the TV show, which is something that I respect. A lot of times, we get caught up in these TV show “love” timelines, sometimes people fall in love after one week, and others it takes longer. Juan Pablo, was honest with his feelings and on the after show, he refused to tell Nikki that he loved her, probably because he doesn’t feel that way yet. I mean in real life, if someone doesn’t love someone…they don’t say it, so I respect him for being honest with his feelings and not caving in and “playing it up” for the camera.

Last but not least he showed his true colors. Juan Pablo’s personality is not TV worthy. He is honest, he is blunt and at times a bit off putting. I mean, I was shocked that he said he was happy he didn’t choose Clare, which to me would have been considered kitchen table talk. He was honest though, and honesty does not always make for good TV. We want the Bachelor to be charming, handsome and everything that a ideal husband would be. Juan Pablo seems to care very much about his daughter and what he wants, and if that is who he is, than who are we to try and change him for a reality show? He stayed true to who he is and didn’t compromise his ideals, thoughts or feelings for the show. I mean Chris Harrison tried and failed to get Juan Pablo to admit his love (or lack there of) for Nikki. He showed us who Juan Pablo Galavis really is.

Until next time lovelies. Comment to let me know what you thought about the finale of The Bachelor!
