How to get clear skin for the summer

We all know that the summer is the absolute worse time to have a face full of makeup. Unfortunately many of us with problem skin have an issue leaving the house without makeup, but here are some tips that I have to help you achieve flawless summer skin.

1) Water, water and more water!: Drink a lot of water. When I had acne I was drinking everything BUT water and it showed through my breakouts. When you go grocery shopping, ignore the soda and juice aisle. Don’t even bring it into your house. The temptation to drink soda will be lessened, since you wont have it in your fridge, readily available. Also to help avoid the temptation of buying soda when you are out and about, keep bottled water with you. You can buy one of those reusable water bottles, with the filter in it, so that you can refill anywhere and everywhere.

2) Vitamins: A multivitamin works wonders. Many times, our body is depleted of the vitamins we need. So most people need to take a multivitamin so that we can get the nutrients they are lacking, back into their systems. Go to GNC or your nearest vitamin store and inquire about what vitamins would we right for you. They have vitamins for skin health, but they also have vitamins for everything under the sun, so in the process of fixing your complexion you can fix your overall health as well. (Also be sure to check with your doctor before you take anything you haven’t taken before.)

3) Ditch the junk food/ fast food and anything drenched in fat: That’s right, no more extra buttery popcorn with 3 tablespoons of salt and definitely no more double cheeseburgers with extra bacon. Not to say that you can’t splurge every now and then, but many times people with problem skin have terrible diets. You need to have a diet high in vegetables and fruits and low in fat so that your body can be “clean” and free of unnecessary oils and fats. You will not only see a difference in your complexion but your body as well!

4) Try not to use makeup: It’s amazing what makeup can do, and makeup can hide your blemishes but it can worsen it as well. If makeup is a must, then try a tinted water based moisturizer with SPF in it, or a water based BB or CC cream. Remember, makeup can clog your pores, so if you want to rid your skin of acne, you need to rid your skin of makeup as well.

5) Find a good facial cleaner/scrub and mask:  Give your face a treat and pamper yourself throughout the week. Create a routine. I typically use a daily facial cleaner. I use Aveeno Clear Complexion twice a day. I also use a facial scrub every other week, or when my skin is feeling dirtier then usual ( i have sensitive skin, so doing a facial scrub to often harms my skin). Last but not least once a week I use a Avon cucumber mask. Which leaves my skin looking very radiant and soft.  Get into a routine and you will see your face looking radiant and healthy.

(The Avon mask can be found online at Avon.com, and the Aveeno and St. Ives can be found in most drug stores.)

Also as a note, don’t overspend on products. It took me a few years to find what products work and what don’t. Give yourself about a month of using a product ( or less if it irritates your skin) to see results, and if you don’t like it, on to the next!

Remember, treat your skin with love and care and understand that your overall health has an impact on your complexion, so eat well, drink a lot of water and pamper your skin at least once a week.
